In women’s basketball, Cuba’s team left with a bronze, while the Canadians defeated the United States 81-73 and kept the gold.

In the first day of fencing, the Venezuelan Alejandra Benitez was defeated in the final by the saber of American Dagmara Wozniak and had to settle for the silver.

In taekwondo, the Mexican Saúl Gutiérrez won the 68 kg category, beating the Canadian Maxime Potvin in the final. Puerto Rico and Colombia got the bronze, with Jose Colón and Miguel Trejos.

Meanwhile, in women’s 57kg, Lewis won the gold for the USA, Paulina Armería of Mexico got the silver. Colombia with Doris Patiño and Cuba with Yamicel Nuñez took the bronze.

Paraguay and Puerto Rico advanced to table tennis semifinals, in a fair day for the Latin American delegations.
